a new kind of hostel...

i've always loved to travel, in fact, i love it so much i actually based my graduate school design thesis centered around travel and its effects on us. so when i read the nytimes article in europe, hostels grow up it made me excited to plan my next trip abroad. my one big regret from college is that i never studied abroad...umm hello, i was an art history major, florence would have been ideal for me. despite being fortunate enough to have traveled extensively all over the world with my family, i never actually wanted to go abroad with a group of 'loud american' college kids, it just wasn't appealing to me to stick out like a sore thumb. my sister however studied and lived in paris, and i'm envious of all the weekend trips she took with her girlfriends seeing europes historic cities and experiencing their nightlife. youth hostels, while not very popular (or barely existent) in the united states, seem to be a great inexpensive way to travel through europe, especially if you're young and social. even if you and your boyfriend (hint, hint) decided to go together it would be such a fun way to meet people from all over the world. maybe it's time to book a trip and stay in some of these uber chic, uber affordable hostels.

so i know it's not europe, but i'd really like to go to reykjavik, iceland. we had a connecting flight there on our way to scandinavia, it was super short & easy to fly to and i've heard great things about it, not to mention the flights there from boston are totally reasonable. i'd love to go to the blue lagoon spa, it's iceland's most popular geothermal spa (which iceland is known for, other than their serious partying reputation due to the long winter nights and the endless summer days).
