nova scotia- day 4...

wish i had more to report today, but mom and i took it easy today (aka: spending no money) and stuck around the house. we did a little sewing in the morning together, a little afternoon cooking, and then i practiced my tennis swing by myself this afternoon with the super cool tennis ball shooting machine (i was quite the sight in my bathing suit & tennis shoes on the court, thank god there aren't any neighbors nearby).

we took the dogs down for a little swim to cool off. notice hanks pathetic doggie-paddle, yes, he's 'special'...

and penny did a little drying off in the yard too, she's also 'special'...

wanted to share 2 of mom's new favorite quotes, one of which i will be making a sign out of driftwood for the house...which would you choose?

"same circus, different clowns' OR 'even a blind squirrel can find a nut sometimes'

playing in my head...and my heart...

This whole city's black and white
Tell me what is your color
Could it be the same as mine
Faded greens and blue street lights
There's a red fire burning from the sea up to the sky

'Cause I don't want to wait until tomorrow
To tell you how I feel the rest of my life
You don't want a waste another minute when you realize
Walking on the dark side of the evening
Maybe it was you who opened my eyes
Burning like a fire on the water
The city of black and white
Won't you just stay
Won't you just stay

I'm on the top
Still looking down
And coming up to me is where the whole world wants to be found
Golden rings and coffee brown
There's white flag waving where my heart is on the ground

'Cause I don't want to wait until tomorrow
To tell you how I feel the rest of my life
You don't want a waste another minute when you realize
Walking on the dark side of the evening
Maybe it was you that opened my eyes
Burning like a fire on the water
The city of black and white
Won't you just stay
Won't you just stay

Won't you just stay now when the light glows over a dark street
No one else knows
So take my hand
I'll carry you
You can carry me

'Cause I don't want to wait until tomorrow
To tell you how I feel the rest of my life
You don't want a waste another minute when you realize
Walking on the dark side of the evening
Maybe it was you who opened my eyes
Burning like a fire on the water
The city of black and white
Won't you just stay
Won't you just stay

delux hats...

meet my new 'sasha' hat (although mine is in mushroom, not gray as seen below) by delux hats, bought from lady luck boutique yesterday. it was a difficult choice, so many hats, so little time. but in the end this one won and i'm looking forward to some fall weather so i can rock this little lovely...

delux hats has some pretty great stuff, i was tempted to buy more than one, trust me...

moss graffiti...

love, love, love this moss graffiti i saw on design mom today...

...i think i might try it out on the side of my office building (it's a massive, ugly big brick building, it could be kind of cool). now what to write?

nova scotia- days 2 & 3...

we've just been relaxing here in nosco, really 'ruffing it' says penny...

yesterday mom and i went into halifax to be touristy, eat ice cream and look at the boats. i bought ever touristy thing you could imagine...

we also went up to the hydrostone market section of nova scotia for some less touristy shopping. a few of the stores we really wanted to go in were closed on monday so we're planning on heading back later this week... i've been trying to get ahead on my holiday shopping this summer and these are the perfect stores to start loading up...

today we headed down to mahone bay & lunenberg for you guessed it, more shopping...

while in lunenberg we had to stop into maritime folk art, mom's new obsession...

these are some of her nova scotia folk art acquisitions in the house currently...

the color combinations & details on the buildings in lunenberg (and in nova scotia in general) are so beautiful and inspiring, i made mom stop so i could snap a few shots...

even the benches are charming...

our big adventure for the day was a trip down to the ovens natural park to see the sea caves. the 'booming' sound of the water rushing into the caves was pretty spectacular, definitely a nice little day trip for us in the sunny weather...

for dinner last night, mussels from the trellis cafe. dinner tonight, chicken pot pie from the saint lawrence kitchen in hubbards... life is good in nosco.

nova scotia- day 1...

we arrived in black point, nova scotia late afternoon yesterday, made it in just under 10 hours! so happy to be here, i can't even tell you how long i've been looking forward to this vacation. the morning started off today (at 6:25am) with my favorite view over saint margarets bay as the fog was dissipating...

it's a bird. it's a plane. oh, no, it's just hank. he's in heaven up here, galloping around like he's just been freed from jail or something...

we've been watching the news reports of hurricane irene back home all morning (we get the local boston channels up here). it's been lightly raining most of the day and the winds have picked up a little, but nothing like hurricane earl we had last year, thank heavens!...

and this little girl has been patiently looking out the window all day to see if the light rain & wind would stop so she could go swimming...maybe tomorrow sweetie...

mom brought up about 40 cucumbers from her garden back home in westport, so in lieu of the crappy weather we stayed dry inside and made pickles, and lots of them! we also had cucumber sandwiches for lunch, safe to say by the end of this trip we'll be cucumbered out...

looking forward to a nicer weather day tomorrow and the rest of the week. it's nice to have a little time with just mom this week before the rest of our family comes up for labor day. more to come!
