so far so good...

it's like this spot was made for him...

a home for the pillows...

i'm a pillow girl, i like to have multiple pillows in varying fabrics & trims on the couches, on the chairs, and especially on my bed. right now i think i have about 7 or 8 decorative pillows on the bed, the main problem being that when i'm taking those 7 or 8 pillows off the bed (only to be invited by about 5 regular pillows for actual sleeping) i have nowhere to put them. and if you're like me you know NOT to put those pillows on the floor where they will be consumed by golden retriever dog hair! unfortunately we have a long narrow bedroom and there is only about 2 feet between the end of the bed and the wall. but in my next house i'd love to have a love seat, or a pair of chairs, or a tufted bench at the foot of the bed to place those cushioned beauties...

(sorry, can't remember which magazine i ripped this out of)

aren't i a nice sister?...

i forget which blog i saw this on recently, but i thought they were absolutely adorable and so i decided to have a 'frame the date' made for my sister & her husband as a little memento of their wedding....

she sent me this text picture of it last night...it came out cute, didn't it? gosh i'm a nice sister.

yummy yummy...

i skipped lunch today at work so obviously when i saw this recipe on hip hostess i started to drool. not sure how i missed this one since i do subscribe to southern living, but i'm glad amber & brandi posted it today...

Makes 6 appetizer portions

4 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 (4-oz.) container crumbled Gorgonzola cheese
2 teaspoons finely chopped onion
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

homemade halloween...

i've never been really into halloween, nor the whole dressing up part. that is until my friends in southie started their annual halloween party, their second best party of the year (apres ski in the early winter rocks!!!). i refuse to buy a costume though, so i try to use things i already own or borrow items to make my costume complete.

2 years ago i was a construction worker, owned the clothes & fake timberland's, borrowed the tool belt & tools...

last year i was a preppy tennis player (although i told people i was a w.a.s.p. at the country club)...pretty much owned every item i'm wearing, bought the shoes (which i still wear), and borrowed the headband...

this year i decided to be a roman/greek goddess. i'm using a flat sheet i already own, gold bangle jewelry, a tacky gold belt i picked up from rue 21 as well as fake gladiator shoes also from rue 21. the shoes are actually brown so i have to spray paint them gold this week to complete the outfit...

actual pictures to come...

chubby baby love...

i made a long overdue visit to my best friend to see her 5 month old baby girl, reese, last weekend...how could you not want to eat this little face off?...

babies have the coolest gadgets too. steph and i might have tortured reese a little in her bouncy seat, but only because we thought it was so awesome and secretly wished they made one of these in adult size (sorry for the quality of the video, it was on my blackberry)...

she had the cutest little outfit on too. i'm kind of obsessed with baby clothing, especially this little place around the corner from my apartment, mulberry road ...lucky for lil' reese auntie blair has a shopping addiction!

now reading...

my mother just finished read the almost moon by alice sebold (author of the lovely bones) for her book group this month and passed it on to me.

i can't wait to start reading it based on this excerpt alone...

"So much in life is about almost, not quites." "Like the moon," Helen had responded. "The whole moon is always there in front of us, although we cannot always see it in its entirety. Except on those nights when it is full, we can do no more than almost see it. So it is with Life. Our life and the lives of those around us are always there in front of us; however, we seldom see the fullness of Life. We almost see it, then it is gone."

drink of choice...

i am an avid bloody mary drinker, have been since the age of 7 or 8 (virgin mary's of course), since my family always started appetizer/cocktail hour with a bloody. my love for the bloody mary continued in college with frequent trips to a little joint called nacho mamma's who made them as spicy as you wanted, they've since gone under but their legend lives on. i still like to whip one up on a sunday morning, however in massachusettes you have to wait till noon to drink one with brunch in a restaurant...lame law that should be abolished immediately

i have to make mention that my sister's husbands family are bloody mary aficionados as well, they might make the best ones i've ever tasted, regularly served at their summer home in nantucket day & night.

so when i came across this recipe for bloody mary ice pops on epicurious my interest was sparked. think they're any good?

ingredients:
  • 2 1/4 cups tomato juice (18 ounces)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon bottled horseradish
  • 3 or 4 drops Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/3 cup vodka
  • Equipment: 8 (1/3-cup) ice pop molds and 8 wooden sticks
preparation

Blend all ingredients with 1/2 teaspoon each of salt and pepper in a blender until smooth, then strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a large measuring cup, pressing on and then discarding solids. Pour into molds. Freeze 30 minutes. Insert sticks, then freeze until firm, about 24 hours.

my trip down college memory lane...

i'm back from my college weekend visit to geneva, new york...and i'm so sad. going there reminds me just how much fun i had, all the great friends i made, and how much i totally miss it. it was my home away from home for 4 years, but it feels like just yesterday i was there. the campus is absolutely beautiful, sitting on top of lake seneca, just as i remember it when i was a junior in high school for a visit before i applied...i wish i was still there every day...

i promise the boyfriend i'd look in on his old fraternity house (sigma phi) too, it's no longer a house on campus but it still wears it's letters proud...

houghton house is an area a little away from the main campus, it's where all the art history, studio art & architecture courses are...it was where i spent most of my fours years, it's seclusion from the rest of the campus makes it special, to me anyway, i got teared up even when i drove out there. they've added a beautiful new studio art center too, the katherine d. elliott studio art center, single largest female alumni donor to william smith...

this was my old apartment off campus, i won't even tell you how little i paid in rent to live in such a cute spot. there are lots of other row houses along main street too, so adorable & charming...

the best part of the whole trip was getting to see my cousin who's currently a freshman there, and meeting all her new friends (who are all totally drop dead gorgeous by the way...i felt old & washed up...a has-been if you will!). i was so jealous on saturday night when they were getting ready to go out...i secretly wished i was going out with them....

i also got to spend some time with my best friend and visit his recently engaged friends too...and their awesome dog bently. i think bently and maple would make a cute couple!..

school store, here i come to load up on MORE sweats!!! xoxo hobart!

nookie (not that kind you perverts)...

it snowed this morning in boston...snow people, you know, the cold white stuff! it's not even november yet. it's only 37 degrees here...ugh! makes me want to crawl into one of these nooks with a blanket, good book, and a huge bowl of soup! i think i'll just hibernate until spring actually....

sorry i don't have the photo credits for these, oops.
