"My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding paints a visually arresting portrait of the secretive, extravagant, and surprising world of gypsies and travelers in Britain today. The show reveals a community that lives alongside but detached from mainstream society. It is a community of contrasts, living by centuries-old religious and cultural traditions, but at the same time embracing the flashier side of the celebrity and fashion-focused times in which we live. "my education on gypsies has only ever been that they are thieves, but this show paints them in a very different light. it focuses primarily on the young woman of this group, most of whom are pulled from school by 12-13 to help at home, illiterate, married young, housewives whose only job is to clean her (mobile) home and serve her husband, and are devout catholics. they are fiercely loyal and a proud group who are committed to continuing their traditions... oh, and the girls dress like total sluts! it's amazing! and their weddings are so over the top, i can't stand it...
not even kidding you, even their communions are over the top like their weddings...
