tennessee, tennessee

Drink all day and rock all night,
The law come to get you if you don't walk right
Got a letter this morning, baby all it read,
You better head back to Tennessee Jed.
Tennessee, Tennessee, there ain't no place I'd rather be,
Baby won't you carry me back to Tennessee.

-Tennessee Jed, Grateful Dead

just returned late last night from a quick weekend trip with the boyfriend down to tennessee to visit my parents. the weather was warm & the company was delightful, and it all went by way so fast! my parents have a beautiful home and are surrounded by acres & acres of land with lots of privacy. it was nice to catch up with my parents, eat a home cooked meal, have a nice visit with both my aging grandparents...and of course, work on our tans (or lack there of) at their pool.

my parents have two of the greatest dogs (aside from our two), both were rescues, both sweet as can be. zip they got about 5 years ago, he's a labradoodle who came from a pretty shabby home. there were two puppies when my parents went to get him, both grossly under weight & severely shy. they regret every day not taking the second one home with them too.

posey has an even more heartbreaking back story. on her brothday, my mother was on her way home from going to pick up a new puppy brother/sister for zip, but she just couldn't stand the thoguht of paying for a dog when there are so many dogs that need 'saving'. so she came home empty-handed, only to notice a scrappy looking little dog at the end of the road with two of the other neighborhood sheep-herding dogs. she looked down right awful; matted hair, worn paws, so skinny her ribs were showing. my mother coaxed the poor thing into her car, took her to the vet the very next day, and now posey is zips little sister. but let me tell you, there is nothing little about this dog...she's got one BIG personality alright!

i think the boyfriend had a pretty good time himself. you see, he's a 'farmer wannabe', so when my stepdad asked him if he wanted to take the john deere tractor out for a test spin (since he's about to have back surgery and can't be doing any yard work much to my mother's dismay!) he jumped at the chance. not only was he a HUGE help to my stepdad, but he looked darn cute up there on that tractor...we even got him a john deere baseball cap & a few cold brews to help him play the part. all in all i'd say he mowed about 7 or 8 acres of the fields on sunday. he's a natural, and it made me even more smitten than i already am with him. i'm pretty sure he'll definitely get the return invite (possibly in july to mow those fields again!).

mom has another type of vehicle parked down in TN, it's not a tractor, but it's one she's had longer than i've been alive. it's the car i learned to drive on when i was 13 years old one summer at our lake house. it's like a family member at this point...

can you tell from the smile on our faces we had a good weekend?...
