having lived in texas & kentucky, and spending a fair amount of time down in tennessee where my parents live, i feel as though i am a southern girl at heart (but don't tell the fierce new yorker in me i said that!). so when i saw architect bill ingram's in the house on lake martin in alabama july/august issue of southern accents i was immediately drawn to it. but this isn't necessarily a 'southern house', this is the type of lake house that could be just about anywhere, even another place after my own heart like lake george in the adirondacks. as the designer says himself it's an "authentic house with American detailing that looks as though it has been there for ages". have a look for yourself...
first of all, i'm loving the wooden chris craft boat and the yard that rolls down to the waters front...
and every good lake house has a alfresco spot for outdoor dining...
can we please talk about that awesome chandelier made of mussel shells...
notice the entire house is painted ben moore's oatmeal and the floors for the most part antique oak, it keeps a simple backdrop palette so that the greens and yellows he uses in the fabrics, artwork & other decoration become the focal point...brilliant...
be sure to check out his website, it has many other homes on lake martin he's worked on...makes me want a house there too!
