currently reading...

in case you didn't know this about me, i am mildly ocd. not the type who has to flick the lights on/off 10 times, or check & recheck that the oven has been turned off, but enough to make it bother SOME people. so you can only imagine my fascination with hoarding. it has now expanded from a&e's show hoarders to a book my mother gave me about two brothers who hoard in nyc, and it's a TRUE STORY. homer & langley:a novel by e.l. doctorow has totally sucked me into their world in just one night of reading. it’s based on two real-life brothers whose psychically conjoined existence in their parents’ upper fifth avenue mansion made headlines when their bodies were found buried under mountains of junk in 1947. weeks later, when half the brownstone had been cleared of 180 tons of junk. looks at these photos of their place...

langley collyer (the one who got buried alive)

homer collyer (the blind brother who ended up starving to death in the trash)
