i never thought i'd say this, but after reading about kennebunkport, maine's hidden pond in food & wine magazine this month i'm dying to learn how to cook (better) just so i can go there (not that you need to know how, but why not with this type of place). the hotel is made up of 14 individual cottages, each complete with a fully stocked kitchen, king sized beds, flat screen tv's, gas fireplaces, screened in porches, and indoor & outdoor showers. aside from each cottage being fabulously decorated (from what i can see), they have an incredible garden on site, tended by the staff, for you to pick the freshest in-season ingredients daily for your meals... and for all other provisions all you have to do is make a 'grocery list' and they magically appear in your cottage. geez, i wish that happened in real life!
i've always found vacations based around food, wine and nature to be the best kind. places like the napa/sonoma valley (although the surrounding towns of calistoga, santa rosa & st. helena are much cuter), the adirondacks, and coastal maine are some of my favorites. there's something so romantic and enchanting about these places, makes them hard to have to leave. i'm definitely putting the hidden pond on my list of must visit spots...
