distracted...

it's hard to work when you have this guy coming up to you every 10 minutes for attention...but how could i resist?..

tranforming the way you do color...

this is an amazing tool for color, i highly recommend it to anyone who is trying to pull a color scheme together for their home, wedding, party, etc. i saw it on the finer things this morning (via creature comforts)...looks super simple too. it's a great way to extrapolate and isolate a specific color within a grouping of colors that work together...

  • Open image page (images must be hosted online (such as flickr, blogs, etc.) for this program to work)
  • Right-click the image
  • Select "View Image"
  • Select and copy the URL at the top of the screen (this should look like a link that ends with .jpg)
  • Copy and paste this link into the proper section on the Color Palette Generator site and click the "Color-palette-ify" button.
so here are a few that i tried this ingenious tool on...

the family tree...

both sides of my family have done a lot of family history research, especially my grandmother's sister, my aunt dorothy, of the pennington family...hence the reason i'm a member of the daughters of the american revolution. but recently the young family (my grandpa's side) had an unexpected package arrive revealing more of their story... you can read about it here.

can you believe this woman found this old family photo album in a shop in maryland of our family from new york & connecticut? and, she decided to research the family and find them to give it back to them? how incredible a story is this?

you can read her journey through her research of the young family starting here.

here's her blog too.

lonny magazine has done it again...

the july/august issue of lonny magazine is so great, i can't stand it!

want to plan an awesome summer getaway? check out cool capitals, the guide to the hippest hotels, eateries and shopping abroad! and once you plan your vacation here are some fashions you might want to think about...

want to do some stellar redecorating? then check out lisa stasiulewicz's fabulous seattle apartment for some inspiration. i love when they tell you 'how to get the look', great idea for a magazine...

want to know where the most divine place to work is? apparently it's in nate berkus's chicago office...hell, i'd never leave the office if ours looked like this!...

and one more thing why i'm on a lonny magazine rant, i am totally smitten with the recessed part of these bookshelves being painted black...they really make all the items on the shelves pop...swooning...

antiquing on the horizon...

my mom and i are going to virginia in a few weeks to visit my grandmother, my aunt & uncle and little cousin robert, we don't get to see them often enough but when we get together us girls are very into antiquing & flea markets, and the virginia/dc area is filled with good ones. one that i'm particularly excited for is the ekster antiques barn, which we're trying to make an appointment for a special viewing...

we'll also be hitting up the world famous georgetown flea market & the eastern market while we're in town...i'll give you a little review when we get back of course.

a trip down market street...

saw this on 60 minutes tonight, i'm fascinated!...

here's the real deal...

luckiest friday night ever...

as a going away gift to my girl little kerry, i bought keith urban concert tickets on rue la la...nothing special, inexpensive, last minute balcony seats. that is, until we were upgraded to the second row on the floor on friday night! no joke, some lady, who apparently works at the garden, came up to all us sketchy and asked if we wanted floor seats. you cannot believe how unbelievable these seats were, we couldn't stop smiling! considering i thought we were sitting way up in the nose-bleeds i decided not to bring my camera and only had my crap blackberry to take pictures with...lesson learned...

lucky for me my super talented photographer friend lindsey, who has an amazing camera, also had floor seats and took these fabulous pictures for us to swoon over. fyi, keith urban is SO hot, i'm kind of obsessed with all of his tattoos, especially the one on his chest that you can see a little bit of...yummy... nicole kidman is one lucky chick...

by far the best part of the concert is when he came out for the encore wearing his very own bruins jersey!...

busted...literally....

you never know when you're going to be caught on camera at a sporting event...

good design for deserving creatures...

i've been reading up on the animal rescue league's plan to renovate & expand their dedham location facilities (i'll tell you why another time) and was introduced to their architects for the project, arq architects, who specialize not only in green building practices, but in animal welfare facilities as well. amazing right?...

i'm totally loving this un-built project in nyc's pier 40...

there's nothing more heartbreaking to me than an animal who has been abused, abandoned, or neglected. there are some really amazing people who dedicate their lives to making animals lives better, and the arl is one of those incredible places. it thrills me that they are making such a large investment in one of their local facilities. you should check out their plans, they look wonderful, i'm very excited for the animals and the people who work there... you can make a donation to support the project here.
